AURORA COLLEGE
Aurora College and BGC Engineering partner to enhance northern transportation safety and reliability

April 25, 2024

Aurora College is collaborating with BGC Engineering on a five-year project, aimed at bolstering transportation safety and reliability in Canada's North. This initiative is part of a broader effort funded by the Government of Canada's National Trade Corridors Fund, reflecting a commitment to addressing the unique transportation challenges faced by Northern and Arctic communities.

The project will leverage a risk-informed, geo-asset, and geohazard data management system designed to transform data into actionable knowledge. This will in turn enhance the safety and network reliability of northern transportation infrastructure. By incorporating historic and ongoing operations and maintenance data, alongside geohazard information, the system will support the preservation and resilience of vital transportation links in the face of emerging stressors, including the impacts of climate change.

Project partners include Aurora College, BGC Engineering, University of British Columbia, and the Government of the Northwest Territories. This initiative aims to both improve the day-to-day lives of Northern communities and to support the broader goal of ensuring economic security and access to affordable goods for all Canadians. By fostering innovation and leveraging cutting-edge technology, this project will provide critical support to the North's transportation infrastructure, enhancing both its safety and sustainability for years to come.
