ST. LAWRENCE COLLEGE
SLC Opens New Paramedic Simulation Centre on Cornwall Campus

May 2, 2024

St. Lawrence College (SLC) is proud to announce the opening of a new Paramedic Simulation Centre on its Cornwall campus. The new donor supported space will revolutionize the learning experience for future paramedics, providing them with advanced simulation capabilities. SLC will formally open the centre with an unveiling event on Tuesday, May 7, 2024.

The revamped labs feature cutting-edge equipment and technology, including video capture capabilities and simulated environments replicating real-life emergency scenarios. These simulations will allow students to practice critical emergency response procedures in simulated real-world environments, preparing them more effectively for their clinical placements and future careers.

"As we unveil our new Paramedic Simulation Centre, we are deeply grateful for the generosity of our donors, whose contributions have made this state-of-the-art facility a reality," said Glenn Vollebregt, SLC President and CEO. "Their support not only enhances the educational experience of our students but also strengthens our community's emergency response capabilities. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who have made this investment in paramedic education."

"The importance of local donors to help fund cutting edge medical training is critical to the advancement of medical and emergency training in our community," said Tom and Gail Kaneb. "We are privileged to be able to support SLC and encourage others to help."

"NuMED Canada, Inc., which has called Cornwall home for over 30 years, is thrilled to lend its support to such a noble and worthwhile cause. The new, state-of-the-art Paramedic Simulation Centre at St. Lawrence College will provide students with real-world, hands-on experience usually only found on larger, metropolitan campuses," said Tom McCarty, CFO of NuMED. "This new centre will enable students to be prepared to provide the greater Cornwall area with advanced paramedic services that are so greatly needed. We wish the College and its students much future success in this endeavour. Well done!"

The new learning facility was made possible due to generous donations totaling $200,000. The donations include $100,000 from an anonymous benefactor, $50,000 from NuMED Canada Inc., and another $50,000 from the Tom and Gail Kaneb Family Foundation. These donations are part of SLC's upgrading of healthcare learning spaces in Kingston, Brockville, and Cornwall, announced last spring.
