Jimmy McLaren, a Grade 12 student at Georgian Bay District SS, was recently announced as a recipient of a Schulich Leader Scholarship Fund scholarship. These scholarships are awarded to 100 high school graduates from across Canada who are enrolling in a science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) program.
He has received a $120,000 scholarship to support his studies in engineering at Western University.
"Jimmy is an exceptional student who consistently demonstrates excellence in the classroom, on the field of play, and within the community. Academically, he maintains high standards, showing intellectual curiosity, discipline, and a strong work ethic. As an athlete, he leads by example through dedication, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Beyond school, Jimmy makes meaningful contributions to the community through service, leadership, and a genuine commitment to helping others," says Andy St. Amant, Guidance and Career Education Curriculum Leader at Georgian Bay District SS. "Jimmy's character, integrity, and positive influence make him a role model for peers and a truly outstanding individual."
The Schulich Leader Scholarship Fund was established in 2012 by businessman and philanthropist Seymour Schulich in recognition of the increasing importance and impact that STEM disciplines will have on the prosperity of future generations.
