Design and construction crews have had a busy summer at schools across the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB). In addition to standard maintenance and upgrades, construction is at various stages of completion on capital projects, including new schools and additions, that have been funded by the Ministry of Education.

Alcona elementary school
This new elementary school is located at 1206 Corm Street and is expected to include 619 pupil places.
Estimated construction completion: fall 2027
Angus elementary school
Located at 152 Greenwood Dr., this new elementary school is expected to include 593 pupil places. Construction is well underway.
Estimated construction completion: fall 2027
Barrie southeast elementary school
The new elementary school on Dean Ave. is expected to include 662 pupil places.

Barrie southeast elementary school #2
Located at Thicketwood Avenue and Ball Gate, this new elementary school is expected to include 616 pupil places.
Estimated construction completion: fall 2028
Baxter Central PS addition
The addition and renovation at Baxter Central PS will result in the addition of 141 new elementary student spaces. Construction is expected to begin in fall 2027.
Estimated construction completion: fall 2029
Emma King ES addition
This project is expected to add 184 elementary student spaces, bringing the total for the school to 599.
Estimated construction completion: 2027
Nantyr Shores SS addition
The addition at Nantyr Shores SS will add 414 student spaces to the school. Once complete, the school will have 1,650 student spaces.
Occupancy planned for semester two of the 2026-27 school year.
Nottawa ES addition
This project includes an addition of 144 elementary student spaces, bringing the school total to 380. Construction is expected to begin in fall 2027.

Orillia elementary school
The new elementary school in Orillia is located at 3001 Bass Lake Side Road and is expected to include 334 pupil places.

Shanty Bay replacement school
The new Shanty Bay elementary school is expected to include 190 pupil places. Demolition of the existing building is complete, and construction on the new building has begun. Students are being accommodated at Johnson Street PS, operating as an independent school with its own administration, office staff, and educators.
Estimated construction completion: Fall 2027
Tottenham elementary school
Located at 80 McGahey Street, the new, two-storey Tottenham elementary school is expected to include 426 pupil places.
Estimated construction completion: Fall 2028
Warnica PS replacement school
The new Warnica PS is expected to include 665 pupil places. Construction is anticipated to begin late 2027.
Estimated construction completion: fall 2029
Wasaga Beach secondary school
The new secondary school in Wasaga Beach will be located at Sunnidale Rd and Sun Valley Ave. In addition to 1,145 pupil places, the school will feature a triple gymnasium and state-of-the-art technology classrooms, including a cosmetology classroom and construction and transportation technology shops.
