The Manitoba government is launching the nomination period for the 2026-27 Excellence in Education Awards, which recognize the outstanding contributions of educators across the province, Education and Early Childhood Learning Minister Tracy Schmidt announced on October 6.
"Educators have one of the most important jobs in our province, making sure children in Manitoba are supported, cared for and receive top-quality education," said Schmidt. "These awards give students, parents and colleagues a chance to celebrate the essential work our educators do every single day to ensure our children have the brightest futures possible."
This year's award categories include:
- teaching excellence award;
- outstanding new teacher award;
- outstanding team collaboration award;
- outstanding school leader award;
- Nello Altomare award for excellence in school nutrition; and
- premier's award for excellence in education.
Nominations may be submitted by parents or legal guardians, students, school trustees, fellow teachers and school or school division administrators.
School leaders are defined as principals or vice-principals. The premier's award is presented to an educator selected from the other categories' nominees. Recipients are recognized for contributions that have a wide-reaching impact on students and the broader school community.
Nominees must hold a valid, permanent Manitoba teaching certificate and work directly with kindergarten to Grade 12 students in a school setting, except for the Nello Altomare award, for which nominees do not need to hold a teaching certificate.
Nominations must be submitted by Dec. 6. Award recipients will be honoured at a ceremony in spring 2027.
