CFA Society Toronto is pleased to announce the call for applications and registrations for its 2027 student competitions and awards. University and college students across Ontario are invited to register for the CFA Institute Research Challenge and CFA Societies Canada Ethics Challenge, and apply for the Undergraduate Finance & Economics Awards, with deadlines throughout October and November.
Together, these three initiatives give students the opportunity to apply their knowledge to real-world investment scenarios, develop analytical and ethical decision-making skills, and connect with industry professionals. They also recognize academic achievement and help prepare the next generation of finance professionals with practical skills and experiences that extend beyond the classroom.
"At CFA Society Toronto, we are committed to supporting the next generation of investment professionals by creating opportunities for students to apply what they learn in the classroom to real-world situations," says Fred Pinto, CFA, ICD.D, CEO of CFA Society Toronto. "Our student competitions and awards recognize academic excellence while helping students develop the analytical judgment, ethical decision-making and communication skills that are essential to a successful career in finance."
CFA Institute Research Challenge
The CFA Institute Research Challenge is one of the world's leading university investment competitions, giving students hands-on experience in equity research and investment analysis. University teams research a real, publicly traded company, conduct financial analysis, develop a valuation model, prepare a professional equity research report and present their investment recommendation to a panel of industry judges.
The challenge tests the analytical, judgment and communication skills used by investment professionals, while giving students practical experience and the opportunity to compete on a global stage.
The competition progresses through five levels: local, sub-regional, regional semifinals, regional and global. CFA Society Toronto and CFA Society Ottawa co-host the local competition for teams across Ontario.
The deadline to register a team is October 28, 2026. Click here for more information.
CFA Societies Canada Ethics Challenge
The CFA Societies Canada Ethics Challenge, organized by CFA Societies Canada and hosted locally by CFA Society Toronto, gives finance and business students the opportunity to explore ethical dilemmas they may encounter as investment professionals.
Teams of three to five students, working with a faculty advisor, analyze a real-world ethics case and present their findings and recommendations to a panel of CFA charterholders. Local winners advance to the National Round in May, where they will have 23 hours to analyze a new case, submit a recorded presentation and face a live judging panel.
Through real-world scenarios, teams apply the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct, developing practical skills in ethical decision-making, critical thinking and professional judgment. The national competition also provides students with opportunities to receive mentorship, compete for prizes and connect with professionals in the investment community.
The deadline to register a team is October 28, 2026. Click here for more information.
