TORONTO METROPOLITAN UNIVERSITY
Amy Peng appointed dean, Faculty of Arts

August 15, 2025

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Amy Peng as dean, Faculty of Arts, effective August 16, 2025. A dedicated educator and award-winning teacher, Amy is deeply committed to student success and educational innovation.

A member of the TMU community for over 20 years, Amy has held many roles including the inaugural associate dean of innovation in teaching and learning, where she advanced initiatives in inclusive pedagogy, co-op expansion, global engagement and curriculum renewal.

Amy Peng, newly appointed dean of the Faculty of Arts, brings over 20 years of TMU experience and a collaborative leadership style to guide the faculty through its next chapter of growth and innovation.

She has also held several key administrative roles across the Faculty of Arts, including interim chair of the Department of History and the Department of Criminology, and undergraduate program director for International Economics and Finance and Economics and Management Science. A tenured associate professor in the Department of Economics since 2010, Amy brings to the role deep cross-departmental experience and a strong track record of academic leadership.

Having most recently served as interim dean, Amy led the Faculty of Arts through major operational reforms.  This involved the introduction of a new resource planning process, including historically aligned teaching assignments and new budget models, alongside a records management framework to support data-informed decision making. These measures have laid the groundwork for sustainable curriculum renewal and long-term stability.

Her teaching has been recognized with the Dean's Teaching Award (2016) and the TMU President's Award for Teaching Excellence (2020). Her research focuses on labour economics and the economics of education, and she regularly collaborates with postsecondary publishers to develop online tools that enhance learning for diverse student populations.

Amy brings to the role of dean a leadership style that is collaborative, transparent and grounded in values. With extensive cross-faculty experience, institutional insight and a deep commitment to TMU's mission, she is well-positioned to guide the Faculty of Arts through its next chapter - championing interdisciplinary collaboration, internationalization, equity-informed leadership and academic excellence.

I look forward to continuing to work closely with Amy in her role and I would like to thank the committee members involved in this important search:
