CapU appoints Debra Doucette, OBC, as fifth chancellor

Capilano University (CapU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Debra Doucette, OBC, as its fifth chancellor, effective June 1.

A 2024 recipient of an honorary Doctor of Laws from CapU, Doucette brings to the ceremonial role a strong reputation for excellence, equity and community stewardship, along with a deep commitment to mentorship and public service.

Doucette is chair of Odlum Brown, an independent Canadian investment firm, and a highly respected business and community leader with more than three decades of experience in Canada's investment industry. A 2024 recipient of an honorary Doctor of Laws from CapU, she brings to the ceremonial role a strong reputation for excellence, equity and community stewardship, along with a deep commitment to mentorship and public service.  

As chancellor, Doucette will serve as a member of the Capilano University Board of Governors and the Senate, and act as an ambassador for the university, helping to reflect and uphold CapU's values at ceremonial and official events.  

"I'm honoured to join the CapU community and uphold the values that bring us together," said Doucette. "Capilano University plays an important role in creating inclusive learning environments and strengthening the communities it serves."  

A graduate of the University of British Columbia, Doucette was appointed to the Order of British Columbia in 2021 and has received numerous additional honours, including the Joseph and Rosalie Segal United Way Community Vision Award.  

Throughout her career, Doucette has been a strong supporter of philanthropy and community investment, championing charitable giving, mentorship and sponsorship initiatives. She has served on several boards in the health care, education and non-profit sectors, supporting organizations that strengthen communities across British Columbia.  

R.J. Wallia, chair of Capilano University's Board of Governors, welcomed Doucette's appointment.

Doucette succeeds Yuri Fulmer, who has served as chancellor of Capilano University since April 2020. His term as chancellor ends May 31, 2026.
