The Durham District School Board (DDSB) announced on June 18 that Chief Executive Officer Camille Williams-Taylor will retire effective January 4, 2027, following a 37-year career in education.
Williams-Taylor began her career as an Educational Assistant in Winnipeg before training as a teacher in Quebec and entering the classroom in 1989. She moved to Ontario in 1991, where she served as a classroom teacher, vice-principal and principal before taking on roles as Course Director at York University's Faculty of Education and as a Student Achievement Officer with the Ontario Ministry of Education. She joined DDSB as a Superintendent in 2011, served as Director of Education at the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board beginning in 2018, and returned to DDSB as Director of Education in 2023 before being named Chief Executive Officer.
"On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I want to thank Camille for her decades of dedicated service to students, staff and communities, and for the leadership she has brought to DDSB," said Tracy Brown, Chairperson, Durham District School Board. "We are grateful for her contributions and wish her well as she begins this new chapter."
"After 37 years, this was not an easy decision," said Camille Williams-Taylor, Chief Executive Officer, Durham District School Board. "I have loved my career in education and been inspired by the students, families and educators I've had the privilege to work alongside. I leave with gratitude for this journey and confidence in the strength of this organization."
The process to select DDSB's next Chief Executive Officer will begin in the coming months.
