The sound of bells echoed through the room, as Grade 2 students at St. Theresa Catholic Elementary School eagerly explored boxes of brand-new musical instruments. Their tiny hands gliding over glossy glockenspiels, vibrant hand bells, and hand drums, the second graders radiated excitement while unboxing their new musical treasures, provided by a nearly $3,000 grant from S'Cool Life Fund. The organization has provided more than 1,200 D.R.E.A.M.S. grants to schools across Canada since launching in 2005, funding projects focused on drama, recreation, extracurricular activities, arts, music, and sports.

Itinerant Arts teacher Jill Tham applied for the S'Cool Life Fund grant last fall. She got an early Christmas present in December when she was notified the school was approved for its list of instruments. It was spring when the instruments arrived at St. Theresa: 30 glockenspiels, 25 hand drums, and three sets of chromatic handbells, worth a grand total of $2,641.88.
Tham worked with Thorold Music before submitting her application to come in within the usual grant limit for schools, helping bring music to life at St. Theresa.
