Since its doors opened in 1960, Waterloo Collegiate Institute (WCI) has been home to countless Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) students whose commitment to excellence has demonstrated the school's motto of "Excelsior" time and time again.
In May, hundreds of former students and staff members came together again to celebrate WCI's 65th anniversary. It was an opportunity for classmates to reconnect after decades apart, for students and their teachers to share a laugh over fond memories and for all to immerse themselves in the never forgotten Viking spirit.
Throughout the school, current WCI students and staff had set up opportunities for alumni and former staff alike to take a trip down memory lane, and share about the impact their experiences at WCI have had on their lives since graduation.
The WCI gyms were lined with photos, yearbooks and other memorabilia organized by decades, ranging from the 1960s all the way to present day, demonstrating the depth of history that has occurred within the walls of the historic school.
As the event came to a close, the hallways and classrooms were still packed with WCI graduates and staff squeezing the last few moments for all the nostalgia they could offer. It's a reminder of the impact and strength of the experiences available for students at WCI, and secondary schools throughout the WRDSB.
