The Foundation for Red Deer Public Schools is incredibly grateful following another successful Tim Hortons Smile Cookie Campaign, thanks to the generous support of the Red Deer community.
During the campaign held April 27 - May 3, local Tim Hortons guests purchased thousands of Smile Cookies in support of Reading College, raising an impressive $80,604 to help students strengthen their literacy skills.
Reading College, a summer literacy program offered through the Foundation for Red Deer Public Schools, supports Grade 2 students with identified reading gaps by providing engaging learning opportunities that build reading and writing skills in a fun and encouraging environment. Since the program began 15 years ago, more than 1,000 students have graduated from Reading College with stronger literacy skills and increased confidence.
"We are thankful to everyone in the community who purchased a Smile Cookie this year," said Kristine Plastow, Board Chair for the Foundation for Red Deer Public Schools. "The continued support from Tim Hortons and the community of Red Deer helps make Reading College possible for students who benefit greatly from this program."
She added the campaign continues to show the power of community support.
"These funds directly support students and families in our community," said Kristine. "Every Smile Cookie purchased helps give a child the opportunity to grow as a reader and build confidence that carries into the classroom and beyond."
Reading College will welcome nearly 80 Grade 2 students starting June 29.
