School District No. 67 (Okanagan Skaha) is pleased to announce completion of the new child care centre at Summerland Elementary School. The Province partnered with School District No. 67 (Okanagan Skaha) to create new child care spaces through $4.3 million in ChildCareBC New Spaces funding. This fund is jointly supported by provincial investments and federal funding under the 2021-2022 to 2030-2031 Canada-British Columbia Canada-wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement. British Columbia and the federal government signed an extension to the Agreement for 2026-2027 to 2030-2031.
The new facility at Summerland Elementary will provide 80 licensed child care spaces for local families and is operated by the Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs. Located on school grounds, the centre will help increase access to affordable, high-quality child care while supporting children and families in the Summerland community.
Construction of the facility is now complete and the child care centre opened in August. The centre is now part of the growing network of school-based child care facilities throughout School District No. 67, helping meet the increasing need for licensed child care spaces across the region.
