At Glencairn Public School, ongoing learning about Indigenous histories, perspectives, and ways of being continues to be an important priority. As part of this commitment, and aligned with Glencairn's School Learning Improvement Plan (SLIP) goal focused on reconciliation, students recently engaged in a powerful cultural experience with Tribal Vision Dance.

Tribal Vision Dance, a family troupe from Six Nations of the Grand River Territory, brought energy, knowledge, and storytelling into the school through an interactive performance rooted in Powwow traditions. Champion dancers and singers shared the history and significance of their regalia and movements, offering students an in-depth learning and cultural experience.
Students were highly engaged throughout the performance, demonstrating curiosity and respect while asking thoughtful questions during the interactive Q&A. Their inquiries reflected a growing understanding and genuine interest in Indigenous identities, traditions, and experiences.
More than a performance, the experience created space for connection and learning. Students were invited to deepen their understanding of Indigenous perspectives and the importance of reconciliation. As Naomi from Tribal Vision Dance shared, "What I hope students take away is that there is still joy in Indigenous communities. I want students to understand that we still have joy, love, song, and dance. We are lucky to have had people hold onto those things so that we can enjoy them today."
This opportunity reflects Glencairn's ongoing commitment to reconciliation and to creating authentic learning experiences that honour Indigenous voices. By engaging directly with artists and knowledge keepers, students build a deeper appreciation for the richness and diversity of First Nations cultures and communities.
