Over two days in June, students in Grades 4 to 8 from the Waterloo Region District School Board gathered at the Ken Seiling Museum for an educational opportunity called Celebrating Indigenous Diversity and Excellence.

This experience brought together students and staff to learn alongside First Nations, Métis, and Inuit community members for a day of connection, culture, and discovery.
Rotating through workshops, students engaged in hands-on learning that highlights the richness and diversity of Indigenous cultures. Sessions included hoop dancing, traditional lacrosse teachings, Métis games and finger weaving, storytelling, medicine pouch making, dancing, and teachings about wampum.
Each workshop offered meaningful opportunities for students to learn directly from local Indigenous community members, fostering deeper understanding and respect.
The event emphasized cultural learning and the importance of community, identity, and shared experiences.
