During the June 9, 2026 Special Meeting of the Board, the District School Board Ontario North East (DSB1) Board of Education approved the budget for the 2026-2027 school year, demonstrating strict alignment with provincial transparency standards and a focus on student outcomes.
The approved budget is balanced, fully compliant with Ministry of Education requirements, and totals $ 188,288,235. This includes:
- Operating expenditures of $167,786,895 directly supporting classrooms and student achievement.
- Capital expenditures of $20,501,340 allocated to essential school condition improvements and renewal projects.
- The total staffing complement approved to support our schools for the upcoming year is 1,137.6 Full Time Equivalents (FTE).
The Chair of the Board, Dr Jonathan Byer, expressed his satisfaction with the budget, stating: "It is nice to see that we are approving a balanced budget this evening, given the current provincial context."
The DSB1 budget process focused on optimizing resources under provincial funding guidelines. Trustees reviewed the financial frameworks prior to the Board Meeting, ensuring clear alignment between fiscal management and the local execution of the DSB1 Strategic Plan.
