St. Mary Catholic Secondary School is excited to announce they have received an Environmental Schools Grant from the City of Pickering!
St. Mary will use the funding to build upon the school's ongoing outdoor classroom project. The outdoor classroom has been an initiative that the St. Mary Outdoor Ed Team, Eco Team, and Retreat Leaders have worked on for the past few years. The project includes an outdoor structure, picnic tables, planter boxes, and vegetable gardens.
With this funding, the school plans to plant more trees, create a rock garden in the fall, and work on expanding the classroom and garden space. The classroom will be fully solar powered by the fall so that students and educators can comfortably utilize the outdoor learning space with laptops and projectors.
St. Mary Catholic Secondary School plans to use the funding to build a stronger path to the outdoor classroom and make it universally accessible for any staff, students and visitors that require accommodations or have accessibility needs.
Thank you to the City of Pickering for making this possible through the Environmental Schools Grant!
