The University of Northern British Columbia recorded its best-ever score in the research environment pillar of the latest edition of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
Research environment, which measures productivity, income and reputation, has now risen for six consecutive years. This year's increase is UNBC's largest in a single year. UNBC also matched its best-ever score in the teaching pillar.
"Research and teaching are at the heart of UNBC's mission to ignite, inspire and lead change. It is wonderful to see that strength recognized in those pillars in the latest Times Higher Education World University rankings," says UNBC Interim President Dr. Bill Owen. "These results show that the North is the future for ideas, discovery and learning."
UNBC's scores increased in four of the five pillars used to rank nearly 2,300 universities around the world, including research environment, teaching, research quality and industry. Overall, UNBC finished in the group of universities ranked 1,201 to 1,400.
The audited rankings include 17 metrics divided into five pillars: teaching (the learning environment); research environment (productivity, income and reputation); research quality (citation impact, research strength, research excellence and research influence); international outlook (staff, students and research); and industry (income and patents).
