Effective August 17, 2026, electric scooters (e-scooters) are not permitted on George Brown Polytechnic premises.
The restriction applies across George Brown campuses and facilities and includes operating, bringing, storing or charging e-scooters on George Brown property or inside our buildings.
The change in George Brown policy is intended to support the safety of students, employees and visitors and complements existing City of Toronto regulations governing e-scooters.
E-scooters in Toronto
The City of Toronto does not permit e-scooters to be operated on public roads, sidewalks, bike lanes, cycle tracks, trails, paths or parks.
Although e-scooters can be purchased in Toronto and are frequently seen throughout the city, that does not mean they are legal to operate on public property.
Students and employees should not use an e-scooter to travel to or between George Brown campuses and should make alternative transportation arrangements.
Accessibility and mobility devices
George Brown's restriction on e-scooters does not apply to mobility devices used by people with disabilities.
George Brown is committed to providing an accessible and inclusive environment and meeting its obligations under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
Members of the community should not make assumptions about an individual's disability or their need to use a mobility device.

What is not permitted?
E-scooters may not be:

operated on George Brown premises;

brought into George Brown buildings;

stored on George Brown premises; or

charged using George Brown facilities.
Mobility devices used by people with disabilities are exempt from these restrictions.
