Northwestern Polytechnic is rooting for a beloved Women's Volleyball Coach. After five impressive seasons with the Wolves, Lauren Hale-Miller has been appointed as the Head Coach for the University of New Brunswick (UNB) REDS Women's Volleyball team.
"We are extremely grateful for the energy and leadership that Lauren has shared with our athletes and learning community," says NWP President and CEO, Dr. Vanessa Sheane. "Naturally we are sad to see her go, but we understand that this is a tremendous opportunity for career advancement in a location that is close to her heart."
Born in Fredericton, Lauren Hale-Miller is a UNB alumna (BRSS'16, BEd'19) with a proven track record that now spans nearly 5000 km and six provinces. Along with coaching NWP athletes and fulfilling a Manager role within the Athletics department, Hale-Miller recently earned Chartered Professional Coach designation from the Coaching Association of Canada. She also currently serves as a Performance Coach and Coach Evaluator with Volleyball Canada.
A true champion and respected competitor, she has been steadily building her resume alongside her trophy cabinet. In 2021, she served as head coach of Alberta's U17 girls' team. Between 2012 and 2019, she worked as a High-Performance Coach with Volleyball New Brunswick and was part of the coaching staff for Team NB at the 2017 Canada Summer Games, where the team captured the first indoor women's volleyball medal in New Brunswick history, defeating Ontario in the bronze medal game.
Between 2013 and 2018, Hale-Miller served as head coach of the junior varsity boys volleyball team and assistant coach of the girls' varsity team at Fredericton's Leo Hayes High School. During her time with the Lions, both programs won back-to-back New Brunswick high school championships.
"Naturally I am thrilled for this next chapter despite it being one of those bittersweet moments for me," explains Hale-Miller. "My time at NWP has been filled with great people and memories that I will cherish. As a proud Frederictonian and UNB alum, I'm honoured to now be able to give back to the community that supported me throughout my volleyball career."
Hale-Miller will wrap up her duties with the Wolves later this month. NWP has begun the process of finding a qualified replacement who will have sizable shoes to fill on and off the court.
