COLLEGE OF NEW CALEDONIA
CNC Quesnel invites high school students to explore the pulse of health sciences at “Adventures in Health Care”

April 30, 2025

Stethoscopes, scrubs, and science from April 30 to May 2, 2025, 28 pre-selected high school students in Quesnel are about to trade their textbooks for medical gloves as they dive into the world of health sciences at Quesnel's inaugural "Adventures in Health Care"

The College of New Caledonia (CNC) and the Rotary Club of Quesnel signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on April 25, 2025 to support the development of the Adventures in Health Care program that introduces Grade 10-11 students to post-secondary education, applied training, volunteer and career opportunities in health sciences in northern British Columbia.

"We know the North needs skilled health care workers, and we're so excited to welcome these aspiring professionals to our campus", says Jenn Scott, CNC's Acting Dean, School of Health Sciences. "Adventures in Health Care gives students a real taste of what it's like to study and work in this field and shows them they can build meaningful careers right here at home. By inspiring them now, we're helping to grow and keep the talent our communities need for the future."

The three-day immersive program, facilitated by the Rotary Club, alongside with CNC, the University of Northern British Columbia, School District 28, First Nations Health Authority, and Northern Health, offers students a unique and hands-on opportunity to experience what it means to study and work in health care.

Day two of the event, Thursday May 1, is fully dedicated to CNC Quesnel's health sciences programs: Nursing Baccalaureate and Health Care Assistant Certificate. Students will get to practice CPR, suturing, and other real medical skills at CNC's high-tech nursing labs under supervision of expert instructors.

Since its inception in 2017, Adventures in Health Care has engaged hundreds of high school students in Prince George, Terrace/Kitimat, the Peace Region, and now Quesnel.
