Selkirk College is pleased to announce that its Practical Nursing Program will now offer annual intakes, with the next cohort beginning in January 2026. This expansion provides more opportunities for students to pursue a meaningful and in-demand health care career while also supporting the growing needs of the region's health care system.
The two-year diploma program prepares graduates to become licensed practical nurses (LPNs), a vital part of the health care team. With a strong focus on hands-on learning and community-based placements, students gain the skills and confidence needed to deliver compassionate, competent care in a variety of settings.
"By offering annual intakes for our Practical Nursing Program, we're supporting individuals to pursue their education close to home while helping to strengthen the health care workforce in our local rural communities," says Jocelyn Schroeder, chair of the School of Health & Human Services. "We are incredibly proud of the first graduates of our Practical Nursing Program and look forward to continuing to support current and future students as they advance their careers and make meaningful contributions to our communities."
The move to annual admissions reflects the college's commitment to addressing critical staffing needs across the region and elevating the role of the practical nurse in today's health care landscape.
