MOHAWK COLLEGE
Mohawk College's Joyce Centre Achieves Zero Carbon Certification for Sixth Consecutive Year

July 17, 2025

Now in its seventh year of operation, Mohawk College's Joyce Centre for Partnership and Innovation has received its Zero Carbon - Performance Certification from the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) for the performance year spanning October 2023 to 2024 (sixth operating year).

The Joyce Centre was one of CaGBC's original pilot projects for the Zero Carbon certification program. This latest certification confirms that the building continued to operate with net-zero carbon emissions, producing more clean, renewable energy (via on-site solar panels) than it consumed. In fact, the solar panels generated 118% of the building's total energy use during the performance year.

This achievement is a direct result of the expertise, dedication, and day-to-day efforts of the college's Facility Services Operations team. Their work ensures the building operates at peak efficiency year after year. Supporting their success are the building's all-electric mechanical systems, geothermal energy use, and high-performance envelope, tools that the team expertly manages to deliver lasting performance.
