NAIT is proud to join the inaugural consortium for the AI Workforce Readiness (AIWR) program, which is a national initiative led by the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii). It brings together 29 Canadian post-secondary institutions to address the growing demand for AI literacy and skills for students and industries.
As one of Canada's leading polytechnics, NAIT is committed to preparing the workforce of the future. By joining the AIWR consortium, NAIT will begin integrating AI education into existing programs across the institution ensuring students graduate with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in future workplaces. In addition, NAIT is dedicated to upskilling and reskilling the current workforce, helping professionals stay up to date with the latest AI tools, technologies, and best practices.
"At NAIT, we're all about giving students the tools and mindset to thrive in a tech-driven world. By joining this consortium, we're taking a critical step forward," said Dr. Tamara Peyton, Dean of NAIT's School of Media and Information Technology. "This will help us bring AI education into programs, ensuring students learn to think critically, act ethically, and be creative with AI in their fields. We are confident this work will allow NAIT graduates to have an advantage in the evolving labour market."
Through this partnership, NAIT will collaborate with Amii's educators and other institutions to co-develop AIWR Curriculum Resource Packages. These teaching materials will help integrate relevant AI skills into existing programs and courses. They will include:
- reading and discussion materials
- case studies
- videos, activities, and lab assessments
"Amii's goal has always been to make AI education accessible, and the AI Workforce Readiness program is the culmination of that commitment. We are excited to work with our inaugural group as part of a growing national network," said Cam Linke, Amii CEO. "By fostering a strong national collaboration, we are directly addressing the urgent AI skills gap and empowering both instructors and students especially those in underserved communities with the necessary AI literacy skills and resources. This foundational work ensures that post-secondary students across the country are equipped for the future of work."
NAIT is proud to be part of this national effort to build Canada's AI-ready workforce.
