CANADORE COLLEGE
Seniors Gather at Canadore College to learn about healthy aging and active lifestyles

March 2, 2026

Seniors from across the North Bay-Parry Sound region came together at Canadore College on Friday, February 27, 2025, for the Aging With Confidence Seniors Information Fair, a dynamic event dedicated to promoting healthy aging and active living. The fair featured local programs, services, and supports designed to help older adults stay informed, engaged, and independent.

The Fair allowed participants to explore available resources, exchange information, and connect directly with service providers - all in one location.   In its fifth year, the event had 35 vendors from 11 sectors.  Looking to the future, the Fair will be held annually on the last Friday in February.

"These Fairs strengthen local communities by connecting older adults to essential programs, services, and health-related supports that promote independence and well-being," said Sue Hesjedahl, Executive Director Older Adult Centres' Association of Ontario. "OACAO is pleased to collaborate with The Village at Canadore College to deliver this Fair, with funding support from the Government of Ontario through the Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility."

"It is vital that we, as older adults, age with dignity and confidence," said Cheryl Holtzhausen, Village VIP (Very Important Panther). "This is only possible if we are aware of services and support available to us in the community. Physical and mental health are important if we are to remain independent and socially connected."

Programs at The Village are multi-generational. Seniors interact with students from a variety of Canadore programs. Anchal Badwal, a Community Connector Student who is studying respiratory therapy, has been looking forward to the fair to showcase the work and programs being offered at The Village.

"This fair helps students learn to connect with the people we will serve in our careers," said Badwal. "The fair improves access to services for older adults in our region."

The Village has been designated as a Seniors' Active Living Centre and receives part of its funding from the Government of Ontario, Ministry of Seniors and Accessibility.
