CAMBRIAN COLLEGE
Cambrian College launches new program for students with learning challenges

April 28, 2026

A developmental or learning challenge should not be a barrier to a college education. That is the philosophy behind a new program at Cambrian College.

The Career Pathways Program is a part-time, one-year, three-semester program for students with developmental, intellectual or learning challenges.  It is designed to help them build confidence, develop workplace skills, and transition into meaningful employment or further education.

It is the first college program of its kind in Northern Ontario.

"At Cambrian College, we believe education should be accessible, inclusive, and transformational," says Janice Clarke, Cambrian's Vice-President Academic. "This program is about more than gaining skills; it's about creating opportunity, building confidence, and ensuring every learner has a pathway to success."

The Career Pathways Program is offered through Cambrian's School of Community Services.

Through a combination of classroom learning, hands-on experience, and field placement, students gain practical skills in workplace professionalism, resumé development, safety, and career exploration, all within a supportive and inclusive environment.

"We know how transformative the right support at the right time can be," adds Tracy Love, one of the program's coordinators. "Students in this program will be supported to explore career pathways, build practical skills, and gain real-world experience, while also forming meaningful connections with other college students. With mentorship from Developmental Services Worker students, participants will be actively connected to Cambrian College life, creating a true sense of belonging that can be incredibly powerful for confidence and personal growth."

The Career Pathways Program is currently open for applications, with limited enrolment available to ensure personalized support for every student.
