June 19, 2026

The Conestoga community celebrated the accomplishments of the first cohort of Commercial Flight Operations students at the Wings Reception on May 28 at the Waterloo campus. The event recognized dedication, professionalism, leadership and achievements with award presentations supported by industry partners.

"Tonight, we gather to recognize not only the completion of programs and milestones reached, but the dedication, resilience and passion that each of our students has demonstrated over the past few years," said Jim Edwards, dean of the Schools of Trades & Apprenticeship and Creative Industries, to attendees. "Aviation is a demanding program. It demands discipline, precision and unwavering commitment to excellence. You have met those demands and risen to the challenge, and we could not be prouder of what you have accomplished."

The award presentation began with the formal recognition of graduating students, during which they were each presented with brass Conestoga Wings and a decorative box made by precision machining and woodworking teams at the college. The recognition marked a defining milestone in their aviation journey, reflecting the successful completion of the program.

The first annual Wings Reception celebrated the following achievements:

  • Spectrum Airways Instructor Rating Sponsorship (Bonded Pathway): Jessica Couling

  • WestJet Culture Award: Nicolas Pronovost

"Congratulations to all students in the Commercial Flight Operations program on your outstanding academic achievements and the successful completion of many flight licences and ratings," said Joni Jean, chair of the Schools of Engineering & Technology and Trades & Apprenticeship. "You should take great pride in what you have accomplished. Your achievements mark the beginning of exciting opportunities ahead, and you are now well-prepared to take the next steps in your aviation careers."

Conestoga's two-year Commercial Flight Operations program prepares students to meet the growing demand in the aviation industry through hands-on training, including modern flight simulators equipped with advanced avionics and realistic emergency scenarios. Students have the option to concurrently complete flight training with partner Spectrum Airways, earning Transport Canada licences upon completion and required examination.
