Cambrian College is partnering with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) to help aspiring police officers take the next step toward a career in law enforcement.
Cambrian is hosting the OPP Bound - Bilingual Edition recruitment event this weekend at its main Barry Downe campus in Greater Sudbury.
The two-day event provides prospective recruits with an opportunity to learn more about careers with the OPP while experiencing key elements of the recruitment process.
As part of OPP Bound, Cambrian's Police Foundations program is supporting the fitness assessment component, giving participants the opportunity to complete physical testing, including the obstacle course, while gaining a realistic understanding of the physical demands of policing.
The partnership reflects Cambrian's commitment to preparing graduates for meaningful careers in public safety by combining classroom instruction with practical, real-world experiences and strong relationships with policing partners.
"Providing future police officers with an opportunity to experience the physical demands of the recruitment process in a supportive learning environment benefits everyone," says Thomas Kingston, a professor in Cambrian's Police Foundations program. "Working alongside police services such as the Ontario Provincial Police helps ensure recruits understand exactly what will be expected of them while reinforcing the importance of fitness, professionalism and preparation. These partnerships strengthen police recruitment while giving our students valuable insight into the realities of a policing career."
The event also offers participants the opportunity to connect directly with OPP recruiters and officers from a variety of specialized units, learn about career pathways within policing, and ask questions about the recruitment process.
