CAMBRIAN COLLEGE
Cambrian College hosts high school IT event

November 6, 2026

From AI to virtual reality, there are many career paths available in the field of information technology, and Cambrian College is encouraging high school students to pursue them.

Cambrian is inviting high school students to attend the Cambrian Tech XP - Powered by Sofvie Inc.

It is being held at the college's Barry Downe campus, Thursday, November 12.

Schools interested in bringing students to Cambrian Tech XP can contact Cassandra Jeffery at cassandra.jeffery@cambriancollege.ca.

"As a technology company growing in Sudbury, we have a role to play in helping students see what's possible here," says Gus Minor, Chief Operating Officer at Sofvie Inc. "Cambrian Tech XP - Powered by Sofvie Inc. gives them a chance to explore how technology is used to solve real-world problems, including the kinds of challenges companies like ours work on every day. It helps students see how their interests and skills could lead to a career in technology, right here at home."

Cambrian Tech XP - Powered by Sofvie Inc. is the evolution of the college's Women in Tech annual event.  This year, the college opened Cambrian Tech XP to all students, with a goal of encouraging more young people to consider careers in technology-driven fields.

"Women in Tech was a very successful event that encouraged more young women to think of careers in IT, and we wanted to increase that momentum by inviting all students to explore this sector," explains Pamela Teed, Chair of Cambrian's School of Information Technology. "Technology-driven sectors have been identified as an area of priority for the Ontario economy, and the Cambrian Tech XP is one way to help fill that need."

Cambrian College also thanks the Douglas A. Smith Family Foundation for its support of Cambrian Tech XP - Powered by Sofvie Inc.

Through its School of Information Technology, Cambrian College offers eight different programs, including its new Bachelor of Applied Computing, as well as AI and Machine Learning, Computer Programming - Internet of Things, Computer Systems Technician/Technology, Cybersecurity, Data Analytics, and IT Business Analysis.
