This year, the St. Mark High School Grade 7/8 Trivia Team didn't just show up they stood out. With more than 25 students on the team, what started as a shared love of learning turned into a year of big wins, bigger challenges, and unforgettable moments. Their dedication, teamwork, and curiosity took them to the top, proving that knowledge really is power and that when students are motivated and supported, incredible things can happen.

A Competitive Spirit and a Passion for Learning
Since October, this group of curious minds led by teacher Britney Castleman has been all in. Meeting twice a week for focused, two-hour practice sessions, they've tackled challenges that would stump even the most seasoned trivia buffs. Under Britney's leadership, four dynamic squads were formed, each one driven by a shared passion for learning and a hunger to compete.
As the only Grade 7/8 team in the entire OCSB, they've often gone head-to-head with older Grade 9 and 10 teams. But instead of backing down, they've risen to the occasion time and time again proving that preparation and heart matter more than age.
And the results speak for themselves. For the third straight year, St. Mark has claimed top honours at the Ontario Junior Provincial Tournament. They've also earned the title of second-best team in Canada for the past two years a remarkable achievement on the national stage. Most recently, they secured a coveted spot in the Grade 7/8 Junior National Championships for the third year in a row, adding yet another impressive chapter to their growing legacy.
A Historic First: St. Mark Goes International!
The biggest news yet? The St. Mark Trivia Team has officially qualified for the Canadian National Championships of the International History Bowl and Bee an incredible first in school history. From May 2-5, 2025, they'll head to Vancouver, BC, to compete at the prestigious University of British Columbia, representing not just their school but the entire OCSB as the first-ever Grade 7/8 team to earn a spot at this level. It's a monumental milestone and a powerful reflection of their drive, curiosity, and the countless hours they've invested. Taking the national stage is no small feat but this team is more than ready for it.
A Culture of Inclusivity and Growth
The success of the St. Mark Trivia Team is not just about the awards and accolades it's about the students and the incredible culture of inclusivity and teamwork they have fostered. This co-ed, inclusive environment has allowed each student to bring their unique strengths to the table, with no one left behind.
The value of academic teams like St. Mark's Trivia Team extends beyond competition. They provide an opportunity for students to shine, develop critical thinking skills, and build lifelong friendships. Not every student is interested in athletics, but every student has the potential to succeed in other areas of interest. Trivia, in particular, offers a platform for students to showcase their talents and represent their school with pride.
The Best is Yet to Come
As the Trivia Team continues to make history with each new victory, one thing is clear: their journey is far from over. With their eyes set on the National Championships in Vancouver, the students are excited to take on this new challenge and continue their legacy of excellence. The dedication, hard work, and passion they have shown throughout this year are just the beginning of what will undoubtedly be an exciting future for these talented young minds.
The St. Mark community couldn't be prouder of this remarkable team of students. Their success reflects the incredible effort and teamwork they've put in, and the entire St. Mark and OCSB families will be cheering them on every step of the way!
