Mental health and social service organizations across Huron and Perth County have united to develop comprehensive service pathways to support children, youth, and adults during mental health crises.
This two-year project has culminated in the creation of an easy-to-follow poster, instructional video, and webinar. These resources are designed to guide frontline workers through a consistent workfl ow that represents the services, supports, and rights of clients, and refl ects our community's commitment to mandates such as "Right Time, Right Care", and Ontario's Roadmap to Wellness. These resources were disseminated to community agencies and service providers across Huron and Perth Counties between January - May 2025 for implementation within their organization.
The development of this protocol was made possible through the dedication and collaboration of community partners including:
- Avon Maitland District School Board
- Canadian Mental Health Association Huron Perth
- Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board
- Huron-Perth Centre for Children & Youth
- Huron-Perth Children's Aid Society
- Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance
- Listowel-Wingham and Area Family Health Team
According to Statistics Canada (2023):
- Approximately 12 individuals die by suicide each day, translating to around 4,500 lives lost annually.
- There is a significant gender disparity, with men being affected at rates nearly three times higher than women.
- Suicide is now the second leading cause of death among youth and young adults aged 15 to 34.
These statistics highlight the critical need for awareness, prevention, intervention, and robust pathways to care.
