FMPSD Announces New Vice-Principals for the 2025–2026 School Year

The Fort McMurray Public School Division (FMPSD) is thrilled to announce the appointment of five talented educators to the role of Vice-Principal for the 2025/26 academic year. Each of these individuals brings with them a wealth of experience, dedication, and a shared commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and inspiring environment for students, staff, and families.

Robyn Kuseler - Dr. K.A. Clark School

Ms. Robyn Kuseler joins Dr. K.A. Clark School as the new Vice-Principal, bringing over 12 years of experience within FMPSD. Having worked at schools such as Beacon Hill, Timberlea, École McTavish, and Dr. K.A. Clark, Ms. Kuseler is no stranger to the FMPSD community. Most recently, she served as the Executive Function Support Teacher, supporting staff, students, and families across the division in key areas of growth like self-regulation and executive function development.

Ms. Kuseler holds a Bachelor of Education (BEd) and a Master of Education (MEd) in Curriculum and Pedagogy from the University of Alberta.

"I am beyond excited to be returning to a school where I spent the majority of my teaching career, and I'm eager to work alongside staff, students, and families in my new role as Vice-Principal. Together, we will continue to foster healthy relationships and cultivate a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment for all," she shares.

Jen Africa - Christina Gordon School

With 13 years of experience at FMPSD, Ms. Jen Africa steps into the position of Vice-Principal at Christina Gordon School. Ms. Africa's career includes serving as an LAC teacher at Timberlea, McTavish, and Christina Gordon, as well as two years working as a Behaviour Support Teacher across all FMPSD schools.

Ms. Africa holds a Bachelor of Education in Elementary and Special Education from the University of Victoria and is currently pursuing a Master's of Education in Educational Leadership from Yorkville University.

"New beginnings bring new possibilities. I'm excited to see what this next chapter brings at a school so close to my heart," says Ms. Africa, reflecting on her appointment.

Marina Swagers - Westwood Community High School

Ms. Marina Swagers assumes the role of Vice-Principal at Westwood Community High School, where she has dedicated 16 of her 17 years as an educator with FMPSD. Having taught Physical Education and Art to students in Grades 7-12, Ms. Swagers' passion for fostering creativity and promoting well-being runs deep.

Ms. Swagers earned her Bachelor of Education with a double major in Kinesiology and Secondary Education at the University of Alberta and is currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership at the same institution.

"I am honoured to continue my journey at Westwood in a new capacity, where I look forward to supporting our students, staff, and families in meaningful ways. This next chapter in my career is an exciting opportunity to give back to the Westwood community that has given me so much," Ms. Swagers shares.

Denise Morris - École McTavish High School

Ms. Denise Morris brings over 18 years of educational experience to her new role as Vice-Principal of École McTavish High School. With a career spanning teaching, instructional leadership, and administrative roles, Ms. Morris' background includes serving as a Literacy Coordinator for FMPSD and six years of experience as a Vice-Principal.

A graduate of St. Francis Xavier University, Ms. Morris recently completed her Master's Degree in Administration and Leadership, further solidifying her expertise in fostering strong school communities.

"Building strong relationships and maintaining open communication with staff, students, and families are key priorities for me. I believe these connections are essential to creating a supportive and successful school environment, and I look forward to continuing this work at École McTavish," Ms. Morris explains.

Heather Redfurn - Dave McNeilly School

Ms. Heather Redfurn joins Dave McNeilly School as Vice-Principal, bringing 17 years of teaching experience with FMPSD. Having taught at Westwood Community High School for seven years and Westview School for the past decade, Heather has a notable background in music and physical education.

Ms. Redfurn holds both a Bachelor of Music and a Bachelor of Education from Acadia University. She earned her Leadership Certification in 2025 and is currently completing her Master's in Educational Leadership from the University of Alberta.

"I'm honoured to join the amazing team at Dave McNeilly and look forward to building strong relationships within the school community," Ms. Redfurn expresses.
