SAUGEEN SHORES
Centennial Pool to be Repurposed by School Board

October 31, 2025

As construction of the new Pryde Aquatic and Wellness Centre (AWC) nears completion, plans for the future of the existing Centennial Pool are underway. On October 27, Town Council authorized moving forward a Purchase and Sale Agreement with the Bluewater District School Board (BWDSB) for the Centennial Pool facility, attached to Saugeen District Secondary School (SDSS). The School Board intends to purchase and repurpose the pool space.

"This agreement is truly a win-win for both the Town and the School Board," said Mayor Charbonneau. "As we prepare for a new chapter of recreation in Saugeen Shores, we are thrilled to see this space reimagined to benefit the youth of our growing community."

The Centennial Pool's location connected to SDSS makes this transition a natural fit. The parcel of land and the portion of the building housing the pool will be purchased by the BWDSB following approvals from the School Board Trustees and the Ministry of Education.

The Centennial Pool will be decommissioned by the Town following the opening of the Pryde AWC, with related work already outlined in the Saugeen Shores 2025 Business Plan (pg 27).
