BRITISH COLUMBIA SCHOOL TRUSTEES ASSOCIATION
Canada's Premier K-12 Public Education Event Hosted By BCSTA

February 2, 2026

The British Columbia School Trustees Association (BCSTA) is pleased to announce it is hosting the Canadian School Boards Association (CSBA) 2026 Trustee Gathering on Education, Innovation and Reconciliation, Canada's premier K-12 public education event. The three-day national gathering will take place July 5-8, 2026, at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler on the traditional territories of the Lil̓wat7úl (Lil'wat) and S wx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) First Nations.

The gathering will bring together school trustees, senior district leaders, Indigenous rights holders and knowledge keepers, and education partners from across Canada for exceptional learning, deep connection, and collective leadership focused on the future of public education.

"This gathering provides exceptional professional development for school trustees and education leaders to deepen their governance skills and leadership capacity," said Tracy Loffler, BCSTA President. "Through focused learning on foundational learning for trustees, equity and inclusion, Truth and Reconciliation, and emerging issues, trustees will strengthen their ability to serve every learner in every community with integrity and vision."

The CSBA 2026 Trustee Gathering will feature an extraordinary lineup of keynote speakers, including Canadian icon Rick Hansen, the "Man in Motion," whose legendary wheelchair journey sparked a global movement for accessibility and inclusion, the Honourable Jody Wilson-Raybould, Canada's first Indigenous Minister of Justice and Attorney General, award-winning artist and advocate Susan Aglukark, and Olympic gold medalist Jon Montgomery.

Programming will centre Truth and Reconciliation throughout the event while addressing critical governance topics, including:

  • Core Governance Training and Foundational Learning for Trustees
  • Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
  • Student Success
  • Truth and Reconciliation
  • Emerging Issues: Artificial Intelligence and Climate Change
  • Legal Issues

Through keynote presentations, land-based learning, Indigenous-led sessions, and purposeful networking, participants will explore how strong, inclusive governance can transform education systems, deepen relationships, and create equitable opportunities for every learner.
