Wolf Creek Public Schools (WCPS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Darcy Blum as Principal of Lacombe Outreach School (LOS).
Blum brings 21 years of dedicated service to WCPS, marked by strong leadership and a deep commitment to student success. Most recently, he has served as Assistant Principal at Lacombe Outreach School and has acted as Principal during periods of absence, demonstrating his readiness for this new position.
Blum's connection to alternative education has been a defining aspect of his career. Since joining LOS in 2007, he has been a consistent advocate for inclusive and flexible learning environments that support diverse student needs. His experience also includes serving as Department Head for the WCPS At Home Learning Program from 2020 to 2023, a teacher in the Summer School Program from 2006 to 2023, and as an LOS learning coach from 2013 to 2015. He began his teaching career with WCPS at Eckville Jr. Sr. High School.
"Darcy's dedication to students and his passion for alternative education are evident in everything he does," said Sonja Dykslag, Assistant Superintendent of People Services. "He is a thoughtful and enthusiastic leader who understands the importance of meeting students where they are at. We are confident he will continue to build a supportive and engaging learning environment at Lacombe Outreach School."
Blum holds a Master of Science in Education from Wilkes University and has also participated in the division's Aspiring Leaders Program.
"I am honoured to step into this role at Lacombe Outreach School," said Blum. "This school has a strong culture of care and support, and I look forward to working alongside our staff and students to continue creating meaningful opportunities for success for every learner."
Blum will assume the role from current Principal Rob Reid, who has chosen to return to a full-time teaching position.
