Wolf Creek Public Schools (WCPS) is pleased to announce the appointment of David Martin as Principal of Iron Ridge Elementary Campus (IREC), effective August 2026.
Martin brings more than 20 years of experience in educational leadership, classroom teaching, and division-wide professional development. He currently serves as Assistant Principal at Ponoka Elementary School. His diverse background includes teaching from Pre-K to Grade 12, serving as a high school Vice-Principal, working as a Literacy Intervention teacher, and a Division lead of Math and Science. He has also instructed at Red Deer Polytechnic.
Martin's leadership philosophy is grounded in the belief that every child can learn to the highest levels. He is committed to fostering a culture of collective responsibility and supporting student success through collaborative teaching, Response to Intervention models, and inclusive programming. He is also an accomplished educational leader and international speaker, having delivered professional development to more than 10,000 educators
"David is a highly respected educator who brings a strong commitment to student success and staff collaboration," said Jay Adamson, Director of People Services. "His experience across grade levels and his focus on inclusive, responsive practices will be a strong asset to Iron Ridge Elementary Campus. We are confident in his ability to lead a positive, student-centered learning environment."
At IREC, Martin looks forward to working alongside staff, students, and the broader community to support key initiatives, including the new K-3 curriculum, play-based learning, Makerspace opportunities, the 7 Habits program, and Indigenous education.

I look forward to working with staff, students, and families to build a culture where all students feel supported, challenged, and inspired to succeed."
Martin will assume the role following the retirement of current Principal Vicky Sahlin, whose leadership and dedication have made a lasting impact on the Iron Ridge Elementary Campus community.
