SASKATCHEWAN TEACHERS' FEDERATION
2026 Arbos Awards Celebrate Leadership in Public Education

April 24, 2026

The Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation is proud to recognize two outstanding leaders in education as the recipients of the 2026 Arbos awards. This year's honourees, Heather Kuttai, and Katie White, have each made a lasting and meaningful impact on public education and the teaching profession in Saskatchewan.

The Arbos Awards represent the Federation's most prestigious honour, recognizing individuals whose contributions have strengthened education, supported teachers and advanced student learning.

"This year's recipients exemplify leadership, dedication and a deep commitment to public education," says STF President Samantha Becotte. "Heather Kuttai and Katie White have shaped education in powerful ways, and we are honoured to recognize their achievements."

Heather Kuttai is an author, disability advocate and human rights activist who has spent three decades advancing equity and accessibility in education. Kuttai has received the Arbos for Distinguished Support of Education and the Teaching Profession. This award honours individuals who are not members of the Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation and who have made significant contributions to education and to the teaching profession through their advocacy and support for teachers and for public education. Kuttai is also known for her resignation from the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission in protest of provincial legislation that requires parental consent for the use of a student's preferred name and pronouns at school and restricts access to third-party sexual health educators - an act that underscored her commitment to protecting student well-being and supporting teachers.

Katie White is an author, coach and educational consultant with more than 30 years of experience dedicated to strengthening teaching and learning. A widely respected leader in assessment and instructional design, she is known for translating theory into practical strategies that empower teachers and improve student learning. White has received the Arbos for Outstanding Contributions to Education and the Teaching Profession. This award honours teachers who have made outstanding contributions to education and the teaching profession that are broad and significant in their scope and impact.

Each Arbos award includes honorary life membership in the Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation and an Arbos statuette.
