UPPER CANADA DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
UCDSB Secures Additional Funding for Cambridge PS Expansion

May 4, 2026

The Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) has secured additional funding from the Ministry of Education to support the Cambridge Public School expansion, ensuring continued progress on the project.

With an additional $3,966,889 of Capital Priorities funding from the Ministry of Education, and an added $2,956,263 of funding from the UCDSB's School Renewal and School Condition Improvement funds, this project now represents an $18.2 million investment in public education.

The new funding will support unique site costs associated with the project, such as upgrades to the original building and the relocation of site-based components.

Construction is slated to begin in May, and some initial site preparation has already taken place.

"Our goal is clear: to provide students with the opportunity to succeed and grow, and ensure teachers have the resources and environment they need to inspire learning and help students thrive," said Paul Calandra, Minister of Education. "We continue to invest in safe, modern schools while strengthening accountability and transparency across Ontario's education system to ensure that every dollar invested is preparing students with practical skills for good-paying, stable careers."

"This additional investment in the Cambridge Public School expansion is great news for students, families, and the entire community. It will help ensure the project moves forward and continues to meet the needs of a growing population," says Stéphane Sarrazin, MPP for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell. "Our government remains committed to investing in modern, high-quality learning environments that support student success."

The new addition will add 427 pupil places to the school, expanding the capacity of the school to approximately 686 students. Currently, there are approximately 535 students enrolled at Cambridge PS, with 14 portables in use.

The parking area, bus lanes, and drop-off areas will also be amended and upgraded as part of this project.

"Cambridge Public School serves a rapidly growing community, and an addition to this school is greatly needed. We're thankful to the Minister of Education for approving these additional funds, and to MPP Stephane Sarrazin for his continued support in this project," says UCDSB Trustee Corina Parisien. "I'm excited to watch this project progress, and I know the parents and guardians at the school are equally excited for this wonderful new learning space."

A sod turning to celebrate the construction milestone is being planned for later this year.  The projected opening date of the school addition is September 2028.
