DUFFERIN-PEEL CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
New Program for Secondary Students

May 4, 2026

The Indigenous Education Department of DPCDSB is proud to offer an exciting new program, open to any secondary student in grade 11 or 12. Interested students must apply for admission as space is limited. Applications are due by Friday May 22, 2026.

Step into a semester like no other, one that takes you beyond the classroom and onto the land, where learning is guided by Indigenous Elders and community members. This immersive, land-based program invites students to experience education through Indigenous knowledge systems that honour relationships, responsibility, and the interconnectedness of all living things.

Grounded in culturally relevant and responsive pedagogy, this program nurtures high expectations, cultural competence, and critical consciousness. Students can earn 4 credits  through hands-on interdisciplinary experiences that build identity, community, and a deeper understanding of the land we live on. Students are also provided the opportunity to learn the basics of Anishinaabemowin (the Ojibway language).

This program is an invitation to learn through connection, connection to Elders, to culture, to the natural world, and to the self. Students leave with strengthened identity, empowered voice, and a richer understanding of Indigenous worldviews that continue to shape and sustain communities today.

If you're ready for a learning experience that inspires, grounds, and transforms, this is where your journey begins!
