A dedicated professional with a passion for supporting those with mental health concerns, Wendy brings a wealth of experience, compassion, and a long-standing connection to the FMPSD community to her new role.
Wendy's educational journey began with a combined Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degree with a major in Social Studies from the University of Lethbridge. She later pursued a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University, graduating with Honours with Distinction in 2023. Her connection to the Division began in 1999 when she started her career as a Social Studies teacher at Westwood Community High School. After several rewarding years in the classroom, Wendy stepped away from her professional life to focus on raising her two daughters.
Upon returning and completing her master's degree, Wendy has spent the past four years serving as a School Counsellor at the Fort McMurray Islamic School and Greely Road School. In this deeply satisfying role, she has supported students, staff, and parents, witnessing firsthand the profound power of connection, empathy, and compassion. In her new role as Mental Health Coordinator, Wendy aspires to bring that same level of care to a much wider community.
Reflecting on her new role, Wendy shared: "It is my firm conviction that people show up with whatever level of capacities they have. If I can assist individuals to increase their capacities both adults and children will benefit. I always remember that people do well if they can, not if they want to. I am excited to support and empower individuals in my new role so that people can learn new ways of being in the world, increase their capacity and experience meaningful change."
Please join us in congratulating Wendy Solbak on her appointment as the FMPSD Mental Health Coordinator, effective August 2026. We are excited to see her dedication and leadership continue to inspire meaningful change and support wellness across the Division.
