FMPSD Launches 2026-2029 Education Plan Focused on Student Success and Well-Being

The Fort McMurray Public School Division (FMPSD) is pleased to announce the release of its 2026-2029 Education Plan. Required by Alberta Education and approved annually by the Board of Trustees, the plan reflects the Division's continuous improvement cycle Learn, Plan, Act, Reflect and our collective commitment to doing what's best for kids.

Based on what we've learned from the previous year's results (see our AERR), we develop an Education Plan for the years ahead that directly responds to the voices of students, staff, families, and community partners. The Board of Trustees officially approved the newest iteration of the plan on May 27, 2026.

"This plan reflects the collective efforts of our schools, staff, students, families, and community partners as we continue working together in support of student success and our shared commitment to 'Doing What's Best for Kids,'" said Tim O'Hara, FMPSD Board Chair.

The 2026-2029 Education Plan is grounded in two primary priorities:

• Priority 1: Success for All. Students will demonstrate growth in all subject areas, with an emphasis on literacy and numeracy, through responsive, differentiated instruction supported by teacher professional learning.

• Priority 2: Maintaining Safe and Caring Learning Environments. A division-wide Well-Being Framework will be co-developed with input from the community to support mental health, belonging, and positive relationships. Additionally, staff and school teams are equipped to provide timely, tiered supports that respond to the diverse academic and social-emotional needs of all learners.

"Our focus is on strengthening literacy and numeracy achievement through responsive and differentiated instruction and assessment, while also supporting student well-being, belonging, and timely support for increasingly diverse learner needs," noted Annalee Nutter, FMPSD Superintendent.

The Division invites all members of the community to review the strategies, performance measures, and shared goals that will guide FMPSD's schools and departments over the next three years.
