Three Delview Secondary Students Win $44,000 Beedie Luminaries Scholarships

June 30, 2026

Congratulations to three Grade 12 students from Delview Secondary who each secured Beedie Luminaries Scholarships recently. As of 2026, the Beedie Luminaries Scholarship Program has supported over 1,300 deserving students across six unique scholarship programs. Learn more here .

Prabhdeep Panesar: "I heard about this scholarship from the school's career advisor, Jasdeep Kaur, in mid-November. She helped me practice for the interview. The essay questions I answered were based on personal experience and talked about my family a lot. I related how this scholarship would not only help me but also my family. For anyone applying for the scholarship, my advice is to be yourself and talk about your family and your struggles. They want to see where you are and how this scholarship will benefit you. Don't stress about it; try your hardest and it it's meant to be yours, it will come to you!"

Julius Dhatt: "Ms. Kaur informed me I would be a great candidate for the scholarship and pushed me to do my best and apply. I answered the questions with honesty, talking about why I thought I fit into the Beedie Luminaries community and values and making sure I touched on all the values of the SHINE program. I made sure my hardships weren't the only thing I talked about, and instead how I handled them. My advice is to wear a smile, thank the interviewer for taking the time to consider you for the scholarship, and be friendly! Lastly, be confident! Confidence will get you (almost) anywhere! Remind yourself that you are deserving and capable. Believe in yourself! I am so happy to have won such an amazing scholarship like Beedie Luminaries, and I hope anyone reading this gets to feel that happiness too."

Arneet Kaur: "In applying for this scholarship, I focused on being authentic and sharing my personal experiences. I wrote about my journey as an immigrant student, the challenges I faced while adapting to a new environment, and how those experiences shaped my resilience and commitment to my community. I also highlighted my volunteer work and leadership roles to show how I applied my values in real life. One tip I would give someone applying for this scholarship is to focus on your "why." Instead of just stating what you have done, explain why it matters to you and what you learned from it. Being genuine makes a strong impression. I am truly grateful for this opportunity and honoured to be selected as a recipient. This scholarship not only supports me financially but also motivates me to continue working toward my goals and giving back to my community. I hope my journey encourages other students to believe in themselves, stay committed to their goals, and take advantage of the opportunities around them."

Congratulations also to Delview students Nazmus Tahsin, who was awarded the $18,000 University of Victoria International Student Entrance and UVIC Entrance Award, and Fae Nguyen who was awarded the $2,000 University of Waterloo President Entrance Award.
