Parkland School Division is pleased to announce the appointment of Jamie Nielsen as Acting Assistant Principal at École Meridian Heights School, effective September 21, 2026. Mrs. Nielsen will step into the role as Ms. Dana Lakusta transitions to an opportunity with CASA Mental Health. We extend our sincere gratitude to Ms. Lakusta for her dedicated service and wish her all the best in her future endeavors.

"We are thrilled to see her bring that experience and leadership to École Meridian Heights School as Acting Assistant Principal, supporting students, staff, and families in the community."

Mrs. Nielsen began her teaching career with Parkland School Division in 2011 at École Broxton Park School, where she taught junior high French Immersion and dedicated extensive time to school athletics as Athletic Director, coach, and basketball league commissioner. In 2020, she moved to Spruce Grove Composite High School, continuing her advocacy for French Immersion programming and coaching Junior Varsity Basketball.
Since September 2024, Mrs. Nielsen has served as an Instructional Services Facilitator with the Centre for Education. In this role, she supports division-wide literacy initiatives, French Immersion programming, the implementation of the new K-9 Social Studies and 4-6 French Immersion Language Arts and Literature (FILAL) curricula. Additionally, Mrs. Nielsen took on an instrumental role in the launch of PSD's International Student Program this fall. Mrs. Nielsen brings 15 years of educational experience to her work.
Mrs. Nielsen earned her Bachelor of Education with Distinction from the University of Alberta's Campus Saint-Jean with a Social Studies major and French language minor. She is currently working towards her Masters of Education in Literacy with the University of British Columbia.
