U of R President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Jeff Keshen reappointed for five-year term

June 30, 2025

The University of Regina's Board of Governors is pleased to announce a five-year reappointment for Dr. Jeff Keshen as President and Vice-Chancellor. His second term commences July 1, 2026.

"I would like to congratulate Dr. Keshen on his second term as President and Vice Chancellor," said Cadmus Delorme, University of Regina Board Chair. "I look forward to his continued leadership and commitment to teaching, research, and community service. His ambitious vision for the University has us continually striving to be bolder and better."

President Keshen joined the University in 2021 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic when most teaching and learning was taking place remotely. He helped the University navigate evolving protocols so that the institution could safely and effectively transition back to offering courses and other activities in-person.

Under his leadership over the past four years, the University has moved forward on several key institutional priorities from the 2020-2025 Strategic Plan, including growing the research enterprise through the development of the Office of Research Partnerships and Innovation. Enhancements have also been made to research and entrepreneurial opportunities for graduate students through the creation of the Graduate Advanced Training and Entrepreneurship (GATE). Experiential learning opportunities for students were also enhanced through the launch of the Centre for Experiential and Service Learning in 2022.

The Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Anti-Oppression strategy and action plan were completed in 2022. Since then, the EDI Office has continued to advance initiatives on campus by promoting responsive educational practices, supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ initiatives, and conducting workshops.

Always looking to the future of the institution, the University launched its first Indigenous Strategic Engagement Plan, developed under the leadership of the Office of Indigenous Engagement, in Fall 2023. In addition, a Strategic Enrolment Plan was created to enhance the overall student experience in areas such as recruitment, retention, academic and personal supports, teaching and learning, health and wellness, financial aid, and engagement after graduation.

"All of these accomplishments from the past several years are the result of a tremendous collective effort by many people across the University," says Dr. Keshen. "I wish to acknowledge the dedicated work of my colleagues and express how much I look forward to working with them in the future to advance the University's tripartite academic mission of teaching, research, and service to community."

Under President Keshen's continued leadership, the University will wrap up a year of 50th anniversary celebrations on July 1, 2025, and work is underway on setting the vision for the University's future with a new strategic plan that is set to launch early next year.
