KING'S UNIVERSITY COLLEGE
Celebrating Excellence and Service Across the King's Community

December 18, 2025

Each year, King's recognizes employees whose dedication, compassion and commitment strengthen our community and reflect the mission and values that guide our work. Through the King's Recognition Awards and Long Service Awards, we celebrate the many ways employees contribute to campus life and make a meaningful difference for students, colleagues and partners across King's.

Congratulations to Craig Mitchell and Joe Henry on being selected as this year's recipients of the King's Recognition Awards. Established in 2023, the awards honour non-faculty staff who embody the spirit of King's through their daily actions, leadership and the supportive environments they help create. This year, the awards recognize two individuals whose contributions to service excellence and community culture reflect the values at the heart of King's.

Craig Mitchell, who began at King's in 2007, is the recipient of the King's Service Excellence Award. Craig is the E-Learning Coordinator in King's Information Technology Services (ITS) and is known across campus for his calm, steady and compassionate approach. Colleagues describe Craig as someone who is always willing to help, whether responding to a last-minute request or offering reassurance during a stressful moment. His patience and thoughtfulness create a positive experience for those he works with, and his commitment to supporting others stood out strongly in the nominations submitted on his behalf.

"Every day, I witness the dedication and service excellence of my colleagues. I am honoured and humbled to receive this award," says Mitchell.

Joe Henry, who joined King's in 2015, is the recipient of the King's Culture Award, which is presented to an individual who fosters an inclusive, collaborative and caring environment at King's. Joe serves as Dean of Students and was selected for the meaningful relationships he builds with students, parents, faculty, staff and community partners, as well as the energy and leadership he brings to campus life. His dedication to student wellbeing, commitment to inclusive practices and ongoing efforts to strengthen the culture of our university were highlighted throughout his nominations.

"The King's Culture Award means so much to me because it reflects the students and colleagues I'm fortunate to work with every day. Any recognition I receive comes from their support, their passion and the way they shape this special community. This award is really about the people who make King's the kind of place worth showing up for inside and outside the classroom," says Henry.

Together, Craig and Joe exemplify the values that define King's and demonstrate the profound impact one person can have on a community.

Alongside the Recognition Awards, King's is pleased to honour employees who are celebrating major service milestones this year. These individuals will be acknowledged at the Christmas luncheon on December 19.

This year's group represents 250 years of combined service. Their longstanding contributions have shaped our campus, supported generations of students and strengthened the community we are all part of.
