BRITISH COLUMBIA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY
BCIT named one of BC's Top Employers 2026

February 13, 2026

The British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) has been named as one of BC's Top Employers for 2026 by Canada's Top 100 Employers. Being recognized for 16 consecutive years reflects the Institute's ongoing commitment to fostering a vibrant and inclusive workplace where everyone thrives.

Supporting employees' wellbeing and sense of connection is more important than ever. At BCIT, this begins with flexibility.

Flexibility empowers employees to balance competing demands, while receiving the support they need to sustainably manage their professional and personal responsibilities.

Why BCIT is a great place to work

With more than 4,390 employees across its five campuses, flexibility is embedded into the BCIT culture and brought to life through Institute-wide initiatives and day-to-day practices.

"Most employees have flexible schedules and hybrid work arrangements which lead to a better work-life balance," shared Chris Hudson, BCIT Vice President of People, Culture, and Inclusion.

For Chris, this means organizing his remote workday on Fridays so that he is able to pick-up and drop-off his son - but he emphasized that flexibility is not one-size-fits-all. As such, BCIT takes a people-focused approach that values listening and supporting employees in ways that best meet their needs.

"When the pandemic ended, we continued online but then we discovered that people were craving to see each other in-person for celebratory BCIT events, like the Employee Excellence Awards," explained Chris. "We listened to the community and brought back in-person events for the social connection. The feedback has been incredible - so much happiness and joy."

Beyond a supportive and purposeful work culture, BCIT offers comprehensive health and wellness benefits including:

  • Paid-time off for medical and dental appointments.
  • Health and wellness coverage for employees and their families.
  • A flexible health spending account for employees.
  • Gender affirmation benefits and fertility benefits.
  • Maternity and parental leave program with salary top-ups, between 75 percent and 95 percent, and up to 52 weeks.

Wellness is different for everyone. Through holistic supports like BCIT Wellness Works, employees are encouraged to nurture all aspects of their wellbeing so they can thrive in life and at work.
