The wins are stacking up for Brock's up-and-coming video game designers.
Digital Humanities graduands who will cross the stage at Brock's upcoming 119th Convocation next month scooped the coveted XP26 People's Choice Award for Best Indie at XP Game Summit in Toronto on May 22 for their game DisGo.
The game, which pits four friends against each other in a split-screen battle for the disco dance spotlight, also won third place in the People's Choice category earlier this year at Toronto's Level Up Showcase.
The annual XP Game Summit brings together professionals across the gaming ecosystem including game developers and publishers alongside business and technology experts.
The People's Choice award was determined by votes of conference attendees and saw Brock's team emerge victorious from a choice of more than 20 local indie games and studios.
DisGo was produced as a capstone project for Brock and Niagara College's GAME program.
Aaron Mauro, Associate Professor and Chair of Digital Humanities, said the team's recognition at the XP Game Summit is evidence of the creativity, technical skill and collaborative spirit of students in the program.
"To win a prize granted by industry peers and the gaming community speaks volumes about both the quality of DisGo and the strength of our GAME Design program," he said.
DisGo team member Travis Waterman said it was an honour for them to demo their game alongside the other indie games of the region at the summit.
"We were incredibly grateful to have this opportunity to showcase our hard work to developers from across the country," he said. "It was unbelievable winning people's choice on our first time attending, and it's an experience we'll never forget."
