UNIVERSITY OF NEW BRUNSWICK
A guide to wellbeing and support at UNB

September 11, 2026

From finding community and building healthy habits to accessing health services, UNB offers resources to help students navigate the transition to university life and make the most of their experience.

Stepping onto campus and beginning university is an exciting new chapter, but it also comes with new experiences, challenges, and opportunities for growth. Whether you're moving away from home, managing a busy schedule, or simply finding your place on campus, it's normal to need guidance as you navigate the transition.

At the University of New Brunswick, a variety of resources and spaces are available to help you feel supported throughout your university journey.

Here are five ways to start strong this year.

Find spaces that help you connect and recharge

Getting to know your campus can help you feel more at home as you settle into your new routine. Taking time to find places where you feel comfortable and connected can make a meaningful difference, whether you're looking to meet new people or simply take a moment for yourself.

At UNB, both the Fredericton and Saint John campuses offer welcoming spaces where you can study or access support.

When on campus consider exploring:

Take advantage of included health and well-being services

Many students are surprised to learn how many health and wellness resources are available through UNB at no additional cost.

Students can access:

April Kennedy, Director of Health and Wellness in Student Affairs and Services at UNB, says the Student Health Centre plays a significant role supporting student mental health and is one that may not always be widely recognized. Beyond primary healthcare, the centre supports students with mental health concerns, wellness planning, and healthy lifestyle goals, connecting them with healthcare professionals who can help them navigate a range of challenges.

Make time for movement and the outdoors

Wellbeing isn't only about accessing services. Spending time outdoors and staying active can help support both physical and mental wellness.

Make sure to take advantage of:

Get to know the people who are here to help

Sometimes you know exactly what kind of support you need. Other times, it can be difficult to know where to start.

One way to find support is through UNB's Positive Mental Health Team, a student-led initiative that helps foster belonging and connection across campus. Through events, wellness activities, peer-to-peer conversations, and outreach initiatives, the team helps create opportunities for students to build community and support one another.

You can also connect with the Student Support and Intervention Team, which helps students navigate challenges and connect with the resources they need.

"Students don't need to be in crisis to access support," said Tiffeny Isabelle, student support case manager who serves UNB's Fredericton and Saint John campuses. "Whether they have questions, concerns, or aren't sure where to turn, the team can help connect them with the right resources."

Explore online, in-person and peer-to-peer supports

Support is available beyond traditional appointments.

The transition to university looks different for everyone, but you don't have to navigate it alone. Whether you're looking for community, guidance, or support, there are people, programs, and spaces across UNB that are here to help you make the most of your university experience.

"If a student is just feeling lost, they can start anywhere," said Kennedy. "From residence staff and faculty members to Student Affairs and Services, there are people across the university community ready to help students find the resources they need."

If you are concerned about a student's wellbeing, faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to connect with the Student Support & Intervention Team by submitting an online referral.
