Amanda Gomes elected President of the BCIT Alumni Association

The BCIT Alumni Association is excited to announce that Amanda Gomes, P.Eng., PMP, has been elected as the Association's President following Sean Poole's retirement from the position. Prior to this, Amanda served on the Association's Board of Directors as Vice President from 2025 to 2026, and Director from 2021 to 2025.

A graduate of BCIT's Civil Engineering program, Amanda brings more than a decade of project management and engineering consulting experience supporting the delivery of capital municipal infrastructure as well as industrial and institutional developments across the province.

As a longtime volunteer leader, Amanda is passionate about creating more opportunities for the BCIT community. "BCIT gave me a strong technical foundation, but its impact on my life has gone well beyond my education," Amanda says. "As an immigrant, BCIT was also an important part of finding my place professionally and in the community. Many of the people, opportunities and experiences that shaped my career can be traced back to BCIT."

"That's why giving back feels very personal to me. It's an opportunity to help create that same sense of possibility for others."

As President, Amanda will lead an incredible Board of Directors, bringing her unique expertise and experience as an immigrant woman who has built a career in the engineering and construction industry. "My journey has shaped my view on leadership and the importance of making space for underrepresented voices," says Amanda. "I'm excited to bring that perspective to the role and help alumni see themselves not just as graduates of BCIT, but as important parts of its future."

Since its founding in 1979, the BCIT Alumni Association has grown to support a global community of over 220,000 alumni. Building on the success of the Association's recent endeavours, such as the highly attended AGMs and the CCAE Prix d'Excellence award-winning How to Talk to Strangers event, Amanda is eager to lead the Association into its next chapter.

"One of BCIT's greatest sources of knowledge, experience, and connection is our alumni," emphasizes Amanda. "Staying engaged allows alumni to keep learning and growing, while giving BCIT an opportunity to learn from the industries and communities they are part of. If we want alumni to stay connected, we need to respect their time, listen to their perspectives, and create experiences that are genuinely valuable to them."

Amanda is a Senior Associate at Infrastructure BC, where she supports public-sector organizations across the province with business planning, procurement, and project delivery. She is also currently on secondment with BC Hydro, supporting project management and delivery for the North Coast Transmission Line project.

Amanda has also played a key role in advancing the Alumni Exchange, a vision the BCIT Alumni Association has been working towards for nearly a decade. Scheduled to open in 2027, the Alumni Exchange will provide a dedicated space for alumni, students, and industry partners to connect, collaborate, and learn.

Looking ahead, Amanda's goals include strengthening connections between alumni and students through mentorship and career support, building a more inclusive and representative alumni community, and ensuring the BCIT Alumni Exchange becomes a lasting hub for learning and collaboration.

"Her collaborative approach and passion for giving back inspire others to get involved, and I'm excited to work alongside her as we continue to build a strong and engaged alumni community."
