NEW BRUNSWICK
New Moncton school to give students space to grow

March 24, 2026

The Fairview Knoll area of Moncton is getting a new school that will bring together students of Forest Glen School and Sunny Brae Middle School.

"This new school will give students in Moncton's east end a modern, well-equipped place to learn," said Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Claire Johnson. "Bringing kindergarten-to-Grade 8 students together under one roof will help create a strong sense of community, where younger students can learn from older ones. It's a space where students can grow, connect and succeed."

Sunny Brae Middle School has students in grades 5 through 8, while Forest Glen houses those from kindergarten to Grade 4. The new school is a $96.5-million project that will accommodate 990 students from kindergarten to Grade 8.

"Bringing these two school communities together into a modern, purpose-built learning environment allows us to better support teaching and learning in ways that reflect today's classrooms," said Randolph MacLean, superintendent of Anglophone East School District.

The school will have various amenities to support the increasing student population, including a stage, a performing arts room, gyms and change rooms.

"This area is growing, and this school will help accommodate that growth," said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Chuck Chiasson. "The design phase is underway, and I look forward to working with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development to build a school that meets the needs of the community."

"By bringing these communities together, we are strengthening opportunities for collaboration, enhancing programming and building a shared sense of pride in a school that will serve as a hub for learning and community connection," said Dominic Vautour, chair of the district education council.

The new school will be on the site of Forest Glen School, on Keenan Drive, with construction expected to begin in 2027. The anticipated opening of the new school is September 2030. Both existing schools will remain open until the new facility is ready.
